But even Kendrick and Cole toy around with melodic ideas in their music. The writers of Tin Pan Alley and Motown had to write only one killer hook to get a hit. But even in those genres, you want some variation to keep your songs interesting. Remember, lyrics are still important.
Invert it. Putting all these techniques together sets your chorus up to have a really strong hook. And just like when someone has an emotional outburst, the songwriter does this by raising the pitch of their voice. Of course, cadence and flow the rhythm and speed of how you say your words, how you ride the beat, your timing, etc.
